Why Start A New Hobby?
- Learn new skills
- Meet new people
- Something fun to do in your free time
Make Sure You Have Enough Time To Start Your New Hobby
Some hobbies need a lot of spare time to successfully do them so make sure you put time aside to do your new hobby! The first lockdown gave me lots of time to start a new hobby and I still have enough time to do my hobbies now! If you work/study during the week, you could make time for your hobby on the weekends and holidays.
Buy Equipment/Resources Needed
For many hobbies, you need certain equipment or resources so make sure to look online to see what you need to buy for your new hobby. For example if you want to learn an instrument, you need to buy the instrument (if you don’t already have it), a music stand and sheet music to get started! You could even ask your family/friends for the items to start your new hobby for special occasions such as birthdays, christmas, etc.
Practice, Practice, Practice
When you first start your new hobby, you might struggle with it but the more you practice, the better you get! This kind of links in with my first point because you need enough time to be able to regularly practice your hobby! If you are passionate about your new hobby, practicing won’t feel like a chore and you will have the motivation to get better!
Talk To Someone With The Same Hobby
It could be a family member, friend or someone online! Comment the hobby you want to start on this post and people can reply to your comment if they do that hobby! They’ve been where you are when they started so they can give you tips on how to get started and improve! You could also join a local club (if there’s a club for your new hobby) and meet new people while doing your hobby!
Watch YouTube Videos
There will probably be loads of videos on YouTube about your new hobby! This is especially helpful if you don’t have a teacher or coach and you are trying to self teach yourself a new hobby! YouTube videos were really helpful to me when I was trying to learn the piano because I knew the basics but the videos helped me to improve!
