I Had A Screen Free Day – My Experience & Tips

Hello! Hope you’re okay! Today’s blog post is all about my experience of a screen free day and my tips for if you are considering doing it in the future. This was probably my first screen free day and I don’t know why I hadn’t done it before. My conditions of this day were that I couldn’t use my phone or laptop all day for things such as working, blogging, social media, games etc. I hope you enjoy this post and comment if you’ve done this before or you are considering doing it.


I woke up pretty early (without an alarm which felt great) and I did a YouTube workout. I decided do a longer and different workout than usual because I wanted to challenge myself. I did the Burn 500 calories with this 20 minute cardio workout video by Nobadaddiction. It was a great workout and I’ll definitely do it again. I didn’t have to take many extra rests as I didn’t get too tired because there were reasonable rests between the moves and there was a variety of moves mixed in (abs, arms, legs) not just continuous cardio moves.


While eating breakfast, I watched the new episode of WandaVision. If you’ve read my January Favorites, you’ll know that I love this TV show a lot! The new episode was so interesting and I definitely recommend watching it! I tried not to watch too much TV on this day because I wanted to do other activities in the day since I had more time.

Get Dressed/Pamper

I had a shower after my workout and afterwards I did some pampering which I don’t do a lot of the time. I did a face mask which I’ve been wanting to do for a while now. I also used my new body yogurt from the body shop for the first time which was great. I did my usual skincare routine and I plucked my eyebrows.

Baking & Listening To Music

I went to the shop to get the ingredients and some treats. I made some brownies using the Jane’s Patisserie recipe and they were so nice. It took a bit longer than the recipe said because I had to redo one of the steps because it went wrong but I enjoyed making it. I listened to some of my favourite music while doing it which was fun! This was the end result!

Bullet Journaling

I started bullet journaling this year but I hadn’t done much of it. I didn’t have the time to do my January pages so I definitely wanted to do it this month. I started setting up my February pages (I know it’s midway through February but I’m aiming to finish it by the end of February) and I’m very pleased with how it turned out. I’m not very artistic so I wanted to do a simple design for the cover so that I didn’t mess it up.


Again, I’ve been trying to read more this year but I’ve never had much time to do it. The book I am currently reading is The Hunger Games Mockingjay and I’m really liking it. I’ve seen the movies a couple of times and it’s amazing so I wanted to read the books. I managed to read a few chapters which was really nice and it has encouraged me to read more in the future! Comment some of your favourite books because I want to get some new books!


I’ve really enjoyed doing jigsaws recently and I did quite a lot of my jigsaw on the night while watching TV in the background. I’m currently doing a 1000 piece lakeside cottage jigsaw which is going to look lovely when it’s done and it’s not too hard.

Other Activities

– Tidied my bedroom

– Practiced my flute – I felt more focused when practicing because I wasn’t thinking about going on my phone.

– Meditation (for the first time)


This was a really good day and I’m proud of myself that I managed to stick with it for the whole day. I admit there were sometimes in the day that I wanted to check my phone but I managed to refrain myself from doing it. I feel like I managed to get a lot of things done because I wasn’t wasting time on my phone and I wasn’t rushed to do anything. I would definitely do this again and some point because it really helped me.

When I went on my phone the next day, I wasn’t actually that excited to go on it which proves that it’s become a habit to check my phone rather than an enjoyment. Obviously I will be using my phone for blogging and work but I’m going to try and limit the time I spend on my phone.

My Tips

  • Put all of the apps that you are not allowed to use (social medias, games, shopping, etc.) in folders and label them all don’t use. This will help you stop yourself using these apps if you do go on your phone to do something. Make sure to remove the apps from the folders the next day before you use them so the folder isn’t useless for next time.
  • If the step above won’t help, you could block all of the apps that you are not allowed to use by using screen time. You can set downtime for the whole day in settings which will prevent you from using the apps.
  • Don’t leave your phone right next to you (unless you want to take photos or something else). On the night, I left my phone upstairs because I wasn’t going to use it which really helped me forget about using it.
  • Try to keep yourself busy so that you don’t get bored and tempted to go on your phone.

This is how I organised my phone for the day. There were a couple of apps such as camera, reminders, calculator, etc that I was allowed to use throughout the day so I kept them out of the folder.

    Also, if you’re loving The Hunger Games, I think you’ll like the Divergent series by Veronica Roth and The Maze Runner series by James Dashner which both have similar concepts!

    1. I was just going to comment and I needed to add that I loved the Divergent Series – one of my favourites! You’ll enjoy them if you’re reading The Hunger Games. 😌 Great post though! I might give this detox a go myself. ☺️

  2. Sounds like you had a really lovely day! I definitely don’t do screen free days as much as I should. I have done it a couple of times where I switch off all my notifications for all the social media apps so that really helps when I am trying to not go on them. Glad you had a good day xx

  3. Great post! This sounds like such a peaceful day, and those brownies look delicious. Unfortunately school and blogging requires me to use my computer and phone. However I try to limit it during the weekends. Thanks for sharing your experience!

  4. Looks like you had a real productive day! I enjoy going for a screen detox, it makes me appreciate the little things and be as productive as possible. I need to do it more often.

  5. This was really interesting. I always think of no screen time in a very literal way. No TVs, phones, laptops etc at all but your light use method seems like a great idea, especially if you’ve never tried it before. I need to give it a go at some point soon x

  6. Boy. I don’t know if I could do this… but then again… I’m either on my phone, my laptop, or watching tv. So, I should invest in other activities or hobbies. Thanks for sharing your experience!
